1. Al Pacino was the first face of Facebook.

Pacino’s face was used in the first logo of Facebook that was created by Mark Zuckerberg’s Harvard classmate, Andrew McCollum, in 2004.

2. 600,000 hacking attempts are made every day on Facebook.

Usually these attempts are made to get personal information from users that can be used to hack things such as credit cards.

3. The Facebook site loses $25,000 for every minute it is down.

The last time the site was down was in the late summer of 2015.

4. Smartphone users check Facebook 14 times a day.

New studies show the pleasure or reward center of the brain (called nucleus accumbens) is activated when people use Facebook, which can be one indicator to why users check it so many times in a day.

5. Facebook tracks sites users visit even after they’ve logged out.

Facebook works with several sites to help promote their products when a user visits those sites. Facebook also finds posts and stories a user might enjoy depending on their search history.

6. There are 30 million deceased Facebook accounts.

Because accounts are locked, families can’t delete the Facebook accounts of their loved ones after they’ve passed. However, Facebook now offers a setting to have an account deleted after death or have a “legacy contact” manage the account after death.

7. Facebook’s primary color is blue because founder Mark Zuckerberg has red-green color blindness.

Zuckerberg chose blue for Facebook since he can actually see all shades of blue, so he’s able to view the color of his site.

8. Facebook has been blocked in China since 2009.

Facebook was used as a communicating tool for Xinjiang independence activists during the Ürümqi riots, which caused the site to be blocked. Surprisingly, there are still 95 million users from China despite the block.

9. 1/3 of all U.S. filed divorces in 2011 had the word “Facebook” in it.

Reports today show Facebook, along with other social media sites, can be a leading cause for divorce. It looks like marriage and Facebook may not be compatible.

10. Psychologists have a disorder for Facebook.

Due to the amount of people who obsess over the site, an American psychologist has introduced the term, Facebook Addiction Disorder, which is a condition where a person spends so much time on Facebook that the balance of the individual’s life is affected.

In the world of branding, a slogan is akin to a thesis, establishing values and rearranging perceptions with every word. Think about the brands you love; chances are, they have connected with you through their written words. A great slogan is a condensed mission statement, reminding the consumer that they and the brand share the same attitude towards the world; that they and the brand are friends, willing to do right by one another. In this blog, we are going to discuss the significance of slogans, provide insight on what to do and what not to do when crafting a slogan, and reference case studies of brands that Fortress has helped discover slogans and taglines for through our Branding and Corporate Identity Services

The Best Slogans in the World

We all know these slogans, but do we know what makes them so memorable? Let’s start with Nike’s “Just Do It.” This slogan is brilliant for a few reasons; it is extremely brief at only three words and eight letters; it is motivational and fits with their brand philosophy of pushing one’s physical limits and being prepared for adventure; and lastly it is works as as a subliminal message that helps users make their decision to buy from Nike. Debating on getting that new pair of running shoes? “Just Do It.” Enough said.

Next up, Apple. Their iconic slogan, “Think Different,” encapsulates the very essence of their brand philosophy. It’s not just a call to buy their products; it’s an invitation to embrace innovation and individuality. In just two words, they’ve managed to capture the spirit of those who dare to challenge the status quo and break new ground.
